Getting Ready to Open Camp!

POST UPDATE:

The new event date has been confirmed: May 20th! We had been forced to delay opening camp this season due to poor road conditions, but we’re happy to report the route is passable now and we can’t wait to see who all might join us!

ORIGINAL POST:

The 2023 camping season is nearly here! In order to get Camp Ortoha ready for its campers, though, a fair amount of work needs to be put into cleaning up the grounds and buildings. We’re inviting the community to pitch in and help out! Do you have a student looking to fulfill volunteer hours? Or do you simply LOVE Ortoha and want an excuse to go visit? We hope you’ll join us!

WHEN: Saturday, May 20th starting at 9 a.m.

WHERE: Camp Ortoha

WHAT TO BRING: Gloves and rakes can be handy to have, but simply having extra helping hands will be enough!

FOOD: Don’t forget to pack your own sack lunch

DETAILS: Can’t stay the whole day? No problem! Please feel free to come and go as your schedule allows. We’ll love the extra help, even if it’s for an hour or two.

A typical Camp Opening Day involves washing windows, sweeping out buildings, and raking up debris. This year, we hope to also tackle two special projects. The first will be to put a new coat on paint on the kitchen floor. The second will be to update the men’s shower building with new pipes and shower stalls. If you happen to have any interest or experience with these types of projects, we’d LOVE to get your assistance. Please contact us right away to express your interest. We may be able to coordinate additional work days for those projects in order to accommodate our volunteers’ schedules.
